Description
Antique CHRISTOFLE FRANCE Silver Tilt Kettle TEAPOT Grape & Vine Hotel FRANKFURTOffering an antique CHRISTOFLE silverplate grape and vine motif French tilt Kettle/Teapot on stand (ca. 1890).
Silversmith to Europe's aristocracy, the French firm Christofle is world renowned
for excellence and fine quality and is eagerly sought by collectors. In addition to taking commissions from royalty, Christofle made
special pieces for luxury hotels, and this teapot on stand from the Hotel National in Frankfurt is such an example.
Included are four pieces: the teapot and lid, the x frame stand, and a burner. The teapot can be tilted in the stand to pour the tea.
The styling is handsome and understated. The teapot is quite simple with no decoration except for
the twig motif in the handle, which consists of the metal twigs joined by a turned piece of ebony in the middle. The rustic twig theme as well as diminutive bunches of grapes are splendidly depicted in the teapot stand.
Christofle produced its wares in limited quantity, so this is an unusual item; and of course the fine workmanship and understated elegance seen in this teapot on stand are hallmarks of Christofle and make this a very desirable piece for the connoisseur.
