    Description

This is a French Jardiniere .950 silver plated in gold. I checked the internet for pricing and could only find a couple that sold for over ,000 and they weren’t solid silver, but only gilt bronze. The guarantee mark is the minerva head which means it was made after 1838. The maker’s mark is the only way to date the piece. The maker’s mark is that of Emile Langlois who worked in Paris from 1888 to 1924. The style would indicate it was made c. 1900.
Emile Langlois was known for his items which combined glass and silver. The glass on this item is in very good condition, and I can find no signature. There is a very faint line of sickness about the level of the top of the silver, it is hardly noticeable and may not be visible in the photos. The gilding on the edges of the glass is still very strong. There are a few very minor scratches primarily on the bottom.
The silver is also in very good condition, a few scratches and really just patina. This piece has been sitting on my desk for about 40 years, and I cleaned it for the first time for this sale. I cleaned it carefully, leaving tarnish in the decoration as I think it looks better that way. But if the buyer prefers a brighter look, I will be happy to dip it, which would make the gold much brighter.
    The dimensions are 7 3/8” x 3 7/8” x 3 ¼” tall.
