Bill Watterson is notorious for refusing to merchandise Calvin & Hobbes like The Simpsons did—preferring that they live only in the world of his comic strips.HOWEVER, it is well known that there were a few exceptions made early on in the life of C&H. One of those few exceptions were 2 licensed calendars approved of by Watterson in the late 1980s. This letter serves as verification of Watterson’s approval of these licensed items. It is a momentous collectible in the world of C&H and a centerpiece of any C&H collection.
This Calvin and Hobbes letter from Bill Watterson dated January 26th 1989 was acquired during a clean out of Universal Press Syndicate art department files. The letter was sent to George Diggs who at the time was head of the art department. This was shipped overnight and stamped that it was received the next day Jan 27th.
