a desirable AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED of celebrated Anglo-American novelist CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD (1904-86). Mr. Isherwood also was an accomplished playwright, screenwriter, autobiographer and diarist.
ALS - Autograph Letter Signed, two pages, May 7, no place indicated. Penned on small pink notepad. Hilarious note to a collector.  Reads:
I have recently discovered that typescripts with the last page autographed by me are being sold for or possibly more. This kind of commercial exploitation of an author's good nature is hard on bona fide collectors, because I am now going to charge for autographs.  Because I expect that you really are a collector and not a dealer, I am making this explanation to you, instead of merely returning the typescripts.  Sorry -- it's a wicked world. Christopher Isherwood.  Anyhow, you've got my autograph.
Isherwood's best-known works include "Goodbye to Berlin," "A Single Man," and "Christopher and His Kind", a memoir which carried him into the heart of the Gay Liberation Movement.
