    Description

Rare Heavy Antique 1900s GUSTAVE KELLER France Gilt 950 Silver Travel Inkwell
This stunning piece was masterfully crafted by famous Paris silversmith Gustave Keller at the end of the 19th Century. It features a rectangular base shape with an ornately rimmed outer lid. The outer lid rests on massive hinges and opens by the push of a sunk button in the front. Inside there is a solid hinged inner lid in the shape of an ingot that opens to the left by pushing a safety clasp on the right. The second lid reveals a crystal inkwell. All parts of the piece are incredibly well made from solid 950 silver with extremely small gap sizes within the hinges and buttons. The piece conveys a feel of first-grade craftsmanship destined for only the wealthiest of users.
The piece is in very good antique condition with a small dent to the outer lid and some patina according to age. The rubber or cork stopper that was attached to the inner lid has come off (but is there and can be put back if desired). The outer lid is monogrammed. The crystal bottle is in very good condition but I haven't been able to take it out which is probably due to spilled ink having "glued" it to the inside.
The piece carries the French Minerva hallmark for 950 silver inside the outer lid and on the bottom. Also signed G. Keller on the bottom and carrying Keller's makers mark.
This large and heavy one-of-a-kind piece measures approx. 2 3/16" long x 1 3/4" wide x 1 3/4" high and weighs an impressive 238 grams.
    Very rare and beautiful piece!
